Sham Pocket Diaper

For right now, I am just putting up this jpeg for others to see...this is not my creation, but one from the Sewyourowndiapers group on Yahoo Groups. I am unsure who made the jpeg, but if you let me know, I will give her the credit due!

When I make it, I have a smaller front flap (in gray) and longer back (in pink) making the opening closer to the front.

I overlap the two fabric almost an inch, but when I use suedecloth, I add extra width to both parts of the inner fabric so there is more room to open and stuff. I don't actually do the curved edges for the overlap.

I love doing sham with the HHS as I can make the snaps hidden even when sewing the diaper and only putting snaps on at the end by doing the sham VERY far to the front. I have only done this with stretchy materials so far (microfleece/poly velour) but have a diaper waiting to be finished that will be with suedecloth, I hope it won't be too hard to stuff! :) Wait and see and I will post results!

Mini Wetbag from Scraps

We were having a discussion on our sewing diapers group about wetbags, so I am sharing the way I make a few of them. This one is made from 3 scraps. In this picture, you can actually see all three scraps...there is a purple above the zipper that goes along to the back, the purple under the zipper and then the print PUL htat you can barely see at the bottom that connects the two purple pieces.

I used the zippered wetbag tutorial in my link section to make it. The only difference is that instead of 1 long piece like she uses, I took 3 small pieces (scraps from diapers) and sewed them together to make one long one.

I know...there are 2 more seams for ,leaking, but really it isn't too bag....since I use these mini bags for my purse, I take them out of my purse within 5-6 hrs at the latest, and there hasn't been a leak issue yet.

Baby Scrapbook for Jodi

These are the scrapbook pages (8x8) that I am doing for my girlfriend who is not really the crafty kind. One of her showers is on Sat. and I want to get at last half if it done to give to her there and can finish the rest to give to her at her other shower (one in Indiana and one in Chicago).

I went online to see her registered items and found that her main bedding for the babe to be is a chocolate brown and green color....so I am using Chocolate Chip cardstock from SU as the base color for every page.

This daddy layout is using TAC wee ones at the bottom, SU phrase starters 2, and SU spunky alphabet.

Such a Soft Soft diaper--and Political thoughts of the day...

So I finally finished a few new diapers for Isaac...
This is the Hippy Hippy Snap pattern and I love it. I plan on and have cut out a TON of diapers to make using this pattern...for his larges to come, and for a few more mediums that I need because now that Alex is goin on the potty, we are not having to wash them so often....so I need more to make it through, not to mention that I have 2 times more inserts for pockets then I need right now...and it drives me crazy having all those inserts not being used!

Anyways...here is his super soft dipe! The outside is a micro poly velour laminated in Saphaire and the inside is red minky...what a striking dipe! LOVE IT!

Other thoughts for the day...Political:
Tomorrow we vote in Indiana, and I will be hitting the polls also...don't know if I will just be canceling out my husband's vote or not, (he always refuses to say who he votes for...and you can just never tell which side he is on b/c he is the perfect devil's advocate!) No matter the topic, no matter what, he will take the other side and defend it against you like he truely belives...he is good...I have been married to him for almost 9 years now and with him for 11 and I have NO idea how he voted in the last election, and still have no idea how he voted for this election! (oh...did I mention he is in Wales right now...he already did absentee ballot!) The only thing I do know for sure about his voting is that he voted to DITCH MITCH Daniels last general election...our IN gov...because Mitch drove huge tractors down a state highway and clogged up traffic to "meet and greet" during people's drive to work...thus making him late...Funny, I am sure Mitch did it to get attention...and he got Jim's...and never got his vote for it!

I am torn on the Demo vote for our Demo Gov. Candidate....serious have a problem with a Gov candidate who says in his ads that he is going to do something about the price of gas...REALLY...I had no idea that the Gov of Indiana had SUCH POWER!!! Wow...I feel that anyone who makes that claim without a very detailed plan that is talked about is just talking like a "politician" or like a "used car salesman"...or that general idea of tell them anything they want to hear to get your sale or their vote...REALLY, am I that stupid??? Are we??? Maybe, but because I feel he is just jumping on that political bandwagon about gas prices, I do feel he might be less then trustworthy and will not be getting my vote!

I will not say who is my Demo choice or who is getting my vote...because no matter what, either one in the White House is MOUNDS better then McCain, so either will get my vote in the Pres. Race....even if it won't count... :) Seeing that I live in IN, I would just be shocked if this state voted for a Demo president, but hey, history is currently in the making with the current demo choices...so maybe IN will make some serious history too by giving it's electoral votes to a Democrat for the first time in DECADES!!


My weight loss struggle!!! continues!
Last time I weighted myself, I was 195, down from 200.
I worked out for 33 mins today at the Y and burned 370 cal.
Would have tried to do more, but Isaac was crying too much and AGAIN, I was called to the nursery...I guess even Alex was hiding under the tables and crying a little, but she was a big girl and did go to the potty by herself there, although the helpers did have to go in and get her to help her with her pants...*Mental note* Make sure to have Alex wear loose clothing she can control on her own when going to the Y! :)
I haven't weighed myself today, but I am sure I have not risen, but hoping a slight fall. My goal is another 10 lbs before Jim comes home...of course I need to drink more water...I think that is my downfall...not enough water.
I guess I should try and post a picture of me at every 5 lb loss so I can start to see a difference...keep me humble and into the groove of getting off this weight. As an ex runner (ran a 1/2 marathon the summer before I first got prego!) this weight is killing my knees and I hate that I can't run (b/c it kills my knees!!)...so I am trying to control my food intake and do walking and hopefully adding weights...in the next few days....

alright, that is all and I am off for the night!

Friday At the Zoo

So, Jim was only in town for Friday and half Saturday, so we spent the day bonding with the kids at the zoo in Ft Wayne. We have a family pass so it was a nice little afternoon...and it was so humid out that Isaac's hair got cute little curls in it. Since we were so close to the Mall, after our zoo trip we hit the mall and got Isaac's 1 year pictures taken. So cute...little late, but hey, better 1 month later then never! :) Here are some pictures!

Color Challenge All things of Nature

This is a card I created for a scs color challenge.
Colors are soft sky and basic gray.
The card base is soft sky, layered on it is a cuttlebug'ed gray.
The white strip is stamped with "stitched" bg from SU.
I watercolored the flowers and put stickles on it for some bling
The Bird stamp is from TAC, All things of nature Set, and is embossed with white on gray.
I pierced the white border around the bird/flower image and again around the oval
The word HOPE is from Tres Chic background stamp from SU

New Nesties!! SCS Color Challenge 158

So...today I got my first Nestabilites! YEAH! So my daughter and I went though all my scraps and used the Cuttlebug and nesties on them to make a ton.

This is actually an old color challenge, 3 weeks ago, but it worked for me.

I was just playing around with the new set and I came up with this!

The Sage green is leftover from the previous card nestabilities cut out and it worked really great!

First Hippy Hippy Snap diaper on Isaac--Medium--at 13months

This is Isaac at 13m wearing a medium Hippy Hippy Snap (HHS) diaper. He is 20lbs and fits it at the medium setting (of the three snap settings on it)
It looked so small when I made it I never thought it would fit! But it did and perfectly...but while I wanted to wake him up to try it on...I held off the urge, but went ahead and made 3 more, but made them larges...he will eventually need those anyways, as all of Alexandra's diapers have been sold off--seeing how they were so girly anyways!!

I love the fit of the HHS.

I loved loved the price of the HHS....$5 AND it was instantly here!!! (a pdf file)

The other thing that has impressed me the most was the fact that the HHS took the LEAST amount of fabric that I have ever seen to make the same size diaper!!!!

Over the weekend, I printed off the HHS pattern to make a NB and SM diaper pattern and grabbed my box of scraps of PUL. You know you all have them!! Mine were slotted to become either mama pads or wetbags*someday* :)

So I took them outside so the kids could play in the wonderful weather we were having...and I went to work...I made 14 NB diapers and 10 smalls out of my scraps--which were scraps b/c I couldn't get the CT diaper pattern or my own personal pattern to fit in those pieces!

A great pattern to get the most for your buck when it comes to PUL and Microfleece or whatever!

These pictures are of Daddy with an unhappy Alex. She is showing what we call the "Carmean frown"--This is Jim's mother's mother's maiden name. She does this OFTEN. She is not as deeply into the frown as usual....like if you try to take a cookie from her or ask her if she wants to go to bed....but is our best photo of it yet. This is also where the gap in the front two teeth comes from...the "carmean gap" that Jim also has. I think the only thing that Alex has from me so far is the shape of her eyes! Although Jim says she does whine just like I do.....but I don't whiiiiiinnnnnnnnnneeeeeeeeeeeeeee! :)

Finally OUTSIDE, our Sunday Walk

The weather was finally agreeable for the last few days here in N. Indiana and we all went outside to enjoy it after our nap! We really haven't had many belly shots....At least not since the beginning of the year. We have one from our waterpark adventure in the beginning of Jan, but that was 2.5 months ago, and I guess I have grown a little...well, hopefully, HE is growing the most! :)

Anyways, I digress....

We have been trying to make sure that Alex has a little connection to the baby and we often talk to the baby and kiss the baby as you see in this picture! We also dance together with the baby. I shake my belly side to side to the music and she will too!


Alex loves to walk on her own now and hates to be in the stroller for walks. My mom has decided we will need to get a lease for her....and since she is such an independent little snot...I might need to for the walks in town with just her, Isaac, and myself. Out in public places....maybe not. If Jim is around, then DEFINATELY NOT! If the two of us can't handle the two of them, I don't think we have any place being wherever we are at!



Just a plain old side shot to show the belly. Isaac is really low, and pretty much has been the whole time. I had a few weeks of pain on my lower abdomen a month or so ago, then it went away. But now, I think he has just gotten too heavy!! I can barely roll over in bed anymore because it hurts moving those muscles to get me moving!

Doesn't it look like he should be coming out soon???!!! I think so!

Today is exactly 2 weeks till his due date, which is the exact day Alex came early. So I am rather hopeful.....but of course that means he won't be here until after his due date...March 25. At least we know his deadline...We will have a baby by the 29th. My OB will be leaving on the 30th, so we have our deadline. I am completely okay with this....considering I want him out NOW!





Here is Alex on the BIG Girl Swing at our local elementary school. She usually LOVES to swing on her own, but today, she just wanted to get on, then off, then on another one, then on to the other one!!!

This is a pretty good picture of the wool longies that I made for her out of the sweater from Salvation Army.

Salvation Army Wool Covers! :)

These are thee things I have made out of a nice $2 Merino wool cardigan from the Salvation Army find!

The wrap to the left is navy snaps and lined with the merino, but has a wool khaki skirt to help make it more "bulletproof" It is about a size nb or maybe a small...we will have to just check it out on Isaac when he arrives....please come quickly!!!! :) The snaps were a gift/trade from Jaye Jaye on my sewing diapers group...Thanks so much! They look great!


This is my first attempt to freehand some shorts to wear this summer for the babes. I hoped it would be the right size for Alex (19m) but I am thinking not now that I see them! :) I will have to see tomorrow when she wakes if I can even squeeze her in them w/o a fitted underneath! If not, the sizing will be perfect for a size small, which should be Isaac this summer. Anyways, it is from the two front panels of the cardigan, so the bottom of the shorts were already finished, and yes, those are real pockets on the side. Alex loves to put things in her pockets now that she has found them, so I was hoping she could wear these! She will probably end up putting things in her brother's pockets!! The top is not finished b/c I want to make sure the elastic will fit the right waist! :)



These are the sleeves of the sweater that I have made into longies for Alex. I am actually plan on making them into shorts since they are a nice light wool, great for the summer. I will add reinforcements with other wool scraps in the area that counts eventually. The top is, again, unfinished since I can't try it on the sleeping Alex! I should be able to get her to put them on tomorrow and put in the casing and elastic during nap time. Once that is done, I might try and find a cute top to match her new navy longies, and have her wear them out in public! Her other 2 longies are only for nights, but I would love to finally have a cute outfit that I MADE that she can wear in public without feeling shame!! :) I figure once the warm weather hits, I can just cut off the bottoms and make a cute little cuff at the legs and she will have her shorts! :)

Big Girl!

Yesterday my mom came over and helped me clean and sort baby clothes to get ready for the new life and well, just life in general. We got so much accomplished! Anyways, Mom invited Alex to go to the potty with her, and low and behold she sat on her potty and did pee!

I have been inviting her to try if she wants whenever I go now. She did leave some, about the size of a quarter. A few times she didn't want to sit there more than a second, but at least she is willing to sit on it now!

After three full days of missing Daddy is starting to show. She just kept wanting to come down out of bed and looking around the house.

She is finally down and quiet, so I hope I am able to get my scraping done during my fav shows...survivor and Grays! I have got the paper and am ready to attach. I figure I will get al that done and then add the embellishemnts and journaling and stamping and titles at a different time. Less things to do at once....or should I say, less things to drag out at once!

Building Blocks!!

Look at me build!!! Alex and Jim were playing with blocks and she stacked 8 high all by herself, and in the second picture she was going for 9! They did topple after the 9th was added, but quite an accomplishment for an 18 month old! Way to go baby girl!

SNOW Day with Daddy

Here are my pictures from my first ride on my sled with Daddy . Then a walk in the snow to the slide. I enjoyed standing up on my slide but didn't really enjoy the snow or the sled. Alex really doesn't like snow. She walked around the snow paths with Jim, but really didn't like it. This was the first time that she really walked on the snow though. Anyother time, she had always just stood at the door step waiting to be carried b/c she didn't like to get snow on her!

New Flannel Fitteds for Isaac

These are some diapers that I have cut out this week and will be making into fitteds for "Isaac" our yet to be born babe...due in five weeks...I am saying anywhere from 2-6 weeks, because that is our window for "normal" and not preterm labor.

They are going to be smalls in the Chloe Toes pattern. I am just waiting on my FOE to arrive before I sew them up.

The flannel I am using are recycled from Jim's flannel pants that he never wears anymore. I have only cut up one of the lightest color b/c that flannel is really wearing bad, and I figured it would be best to save that pair of pants for the newborn size as it isn't worn as long.
