One Layer Papertrey Ink Harvest Berries All occasion cards

So, I have been super bad about using craft items recently! I got this set from papertrey ink before christmas...in fact, I got another set at the same time and that one is the one I USED for my christmas cards. Anyways. I have been in love with their Januanry release but have promised myself to buy nothing till all stamp sets have been inked and used a lot....or at least enough that I had gotten back their worth.... Not sure if that makes sense, but 8 cards here...I am gonna value them at 2.00 each. Value total: 16.00 Stamp Set cost: 15.00 Yea! I have gotten back the value of the stamps. Plus, I like these cards so much that I will have to do a re-creation of them with a different sentiment.

I want to send these to my aunt who likes my cards, or give them to my mother (who loves green!), or give them in a tote bag (yet to be made) with envelopes to a friend to had our family over for dinner.

It was nice to break it down....did some while dinner rolls were baking, some while chili was simmering and finished them off after the kids were in bed. They are still drying now, but I am very happy about the results!

Inks used are spanish olive versa magic for the dark leaves, and memento rich cocoa for the sentiment and the berries were stamped in the cocoa then covered in the liquid pearls--ruby red. The light solid ginko leaves were stamped in papertrey ink spring moss. All stamps are from the Papertrey Ink Harvest Berries stamp set. Ivory cardstock (some on SU, some papertrey)

Just so I remember to get up before the kids so they don't get into them before I do!

My weekly meal plans! I know if I plan, I will stick to it and will have everything I need on hand!

Tomorrow I plan to have my shopping list posted along with approximate bkft and lunch ideas for the week also.

Monday: Beef in a Leaf Serves 6 This is one of my husband's favorite meals.
2 tsp oil
1 lb sirloin steak
2 Tbs soy sauce
2 Tbs balsamic vinegar
2 Tbs honey
1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
4 cups cooked spaghetti, hot
Head of Lettuce (I prefer iceburg for this recipie since it is used like a wrap)
*****************************
1. heat oil in pan, cut beef in thin slices
2. brown beef
3. add soy sauce, vinegar, honey and pepper flakes
4. cook 2 mins and add pasta and toss to coat
Serve with Large pieces of lettuce to wrap the pasta/beef and eat like a taco/burrito

Tuesday: Captain's red beans and rice serves 10 or more.

I have always tried find a great red beans and rice recipie that would remind my husband and I of our trip to New Orleans. Not spicy, but very meaty and so good...best ever. I get excited just thinking about making this....I often freeze a meal size out of it once it cools for a later week and it freezes wonderfully. Even great to freeze in personal size portions for lunches.

2 lbs ham diced
1 lb red kidney beans, soaked overnight
1 bay leaf
1/2 lb bacon
1 bell pepper, chopped
1 large yellow onion, minced (red peppers REALLY throw off flavor so if you need, use 2 green)
1 cup diced celery
1 garlic clove, minced (I use 3)

1. place beans in heavy pot and add enough water from roasting pan(from roasting ham) to cover beans ( I do not do this, since I don't cook the ham first, just buy pre cooked ham usually)
2. add bay leaf
3. cut ham from bone, cut into 1inch pieces, add to bean pot. (I skip and just open the package)
4. bring to boil and stir occasionally to keep beans from sticking.
5. In saute pan, cook bacon in oil till bacon is limp but not fully cooked.
6. add onions, pepper, celery and garlic.
7. cook until vegetables are softened. add to bean mixture
8. cook until beans begin to break apart or begin to stick to pot.

Wednesday: Chicken and Biscuits Serves 6 or 7

I make my own biscuits from scratch as they are very easy and excellent, otherwise the recipies called for using bisquick

Ingredients are as follows:
2 cups sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
4 tablespoons butter or shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
about 3/4 cup milk

16 oz frozen mixed vegetables
2 1/2 cup cubed cooked chicken
1 can cream of chicken soup
3//4 cup milk
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
********************************
1. mix vegtables, chicken, soup, milk and cheese
2. put in oval baking dish and cover and bake 15mins at 400
3. make biscuits and drop over chicken mix and bake uncovered 20-25 mins

Thursday: Italian Sausage with Bow Ties Serves: 5 but could easily be expanded by mores sausage/pasta and what not. This is one of my favorite dishes

16 ounces bow tie pasta
1 lb Italian sausage
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 1/2 tsp minced garlic
1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
2 can (15 oz) italian stewed tomatoes, drained and chopped
1 1/2 cup heavy (whipping) cream
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp dried basil
shredded parmesan cheese
*************************************
1. Cook pasta according to package directions
2. In dutch oven, cook sausage, onion, garlic, and pepper flakes over medium heat for 4/5 mins or until the meat is no longer pink: drain
3. Stir in the tomatoes, cream, salt and basil.
4. Bring to Boil over medium heat
5. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 6-8 mins or until thickened, stirring occasionally.
6. Drain pasta and toss with sausage mixture
7. Garnish with parm cheese
Servings: 5
Cooking Times
Total Time: 25 minutes

Friday: Pizza and a Movie night (frozen pizzas!)

Pizza
Carrot sticks

Saturday: Tangy Sloppy Joes--My 4 yr old loves this and will eat 2! Only sloppy Joes I will eat now!

1 lb ground beef
1/2 cup chopped celery
1/3 cup chopped onion
2 Tbs chopped green bell papper
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup chili sauce
1 Tbs sugar
1 Tbs brown sugar
1 Tbs cider vinegar
2 tsp ground mustard
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
**************************
1. In lg skillet cook beef, celery, onion and green pepper over medium heat until meat is no longer pink and vegetables are tender. Drain
2. Stir in ketchup, chili sauce, sugars, vinegar, mustard, salt and pepper.
3. Bring to boil
4. reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 15 mins

Sunday: Pretzel Crusted Chicken Serves 4

1 lb Chicken breasts -- boned and skinned
1/4 cup honey mustard
8 slices ham--thinly sliced
1/2 cup pretzels crushed
1. cut horizonal slit in one side of each chicken breats half to within half inch of the opposite side
I pound them rather thin so they cook faster and easier
2. spread honey mustard inside each pocket
3. stuff with two ham slices
4. Place in greased 13x9 baking dish
5. brush with butter
6. sprinkle with crushed pretzels
7. Bake uncovered at 350 for 40-45 mins till chicken juices run clear

I need to make my chirstmas cards, so any challenge HAS to be made into a christmas card also. I was moved....for the first time in months to make a few cards. The flourishes blog challenge was to double emboss and although I have seen this done, seen the tutorials before, I have never tried it and wanted to make a card for a friend who we visited this past weekend (after not seeing each other for a YEAR!!! Yep, we only live 3 hrs apart! How sad are we! Kids really get in the way of things sometimes!

Anyways, I made a flourishes card using only sentiments from cherries/peaches set of theirs. I am hoping to be the lucky one who wins....I would really love to get a new set from them partly for free! I don't have a christmas set from them and would really love a few of them. So cross your fingers for me!

I used a cuttlebug folder and a spellbinder label to double emboss (check out splitcoast for a tutorial...or a link from the flourishes blog post)

Although I didn't do much on the inside, I did emboss the sentiment in bronze (as I did on the sentiment on the outside) I thought the quote "true friends grow separtely without growing apart" is perfect for us because although we NEVER talk and rarely see each other...whenever we visit, it is just as if nothing had ever changed or is uncomfortable. Love that. I intend to make our visits much more frequent...especially since my 6 yr old really enjoyed her 3yr old!

I also made a christmas card with the same double emboss technique using papertrey ink stamp set called in the meadow. LOVE THIS SET! Will see many christmas card this year using this set!

it is an ottobre pattern from the 6/10 issue. I am making it in a 122 size (euro) which is actually a little too big but she grows out of her tops fast since she has a long torso.

Froggie Birthday-Masculine

I am trying really hard to make several boyish or masculine cards since I tend to only make girly ones. This froggie is a digi from all that scraps and I love him! fun, plus can be for girls or boys or men! Yea for versatile!

pale yellow green CS base is from Papertrey ink along with the tag die/stamp from tiny tags.

Froggie is colored with YG 17, 3, 1 copics along with the balloon too. print paper is from colorbok "english moss' that I just got from Joannes on Thursday.

That paper had been sitting with a few other items bought with birthday money on my desk....mocking me....waiting for me to play, but I couldn't get away till today to actually create something with my new stuff! Still haven't broken in my punches, but I will get to those very very soon!

No....the balloon is not like that. My printer went crazy...don't know what happened, but another printed normal, but I colored the frog so nice that I wasn't going to do it over again.

Halloween card

This card is for the Kraftin Kimmie Challenge of spooky cards...well, I don't have any of the halloween stamps, so I had to improvise. Since Drucilla here is a little crazed with her little Pins in her friend, I figured she would work out nicely for the halloween card. I never make halloween cards....so this brought me out of my comfort zone. I had the skull/crossbones paper from Hobby Lobby a long time ago....and had even had this stamp in mind when I bought it! The Orange cs is embossed with my cutting plate for my cuttlebug (yep, weird, but makes a nice texture without being overly strong) Distessed the edges of both cs. I used a spellbinder label die and the out of box technique.

The Layout is based on the Sketch on Sketch Saturday.

Negative Space Baby Boy Card

My Friend just had a baby boy on Tuesday morning and I needed a card! I used the challenge over at Charisma Cardz challenge for the use of negative space where at least 2/3rds of the card is to be blank. This ends up being perfect because in order to get my husband to sign it, the card did need to be nice and plain.

BG copics colored the Hippo from a TAC stamp set that starts with silly, but I can't remember the rest of the name. The sentiment and tag die comes from Papertrey Ink tiny tags. The Grey ribbon is SU taffeta from forever ago! I also entered this into the Blue Greens Challenge at the Copic creations challenge.

Flourishes Cherries and Peaches set provides the image, colored with copics Rs and YGs. Cut out with Spellbinders using the out of box techinque and Sponged with antique linen distress ink.

DCWV red textured cardstock for both, all distressed with timholtz vintage photo distress ink and the ribbon is from RABOM (ribbons and bows oh my.com)--dk brown satin.

Sentiment is from a Papertrey set (out on a limb? not sure off the top of my head...it was out on the desk and I need to find its home! )

Flourish CASE challenge

Challenge of the day...to CASE a flourishes designer or someone who is a friend or the such.

Here is the card I cased....Honestly, I really had a hard time finding one I wanted to case as I have become a more simple card maker and am not into too much stuff on my cards. They are lovely, but I have a hard time taking gorg cards and simplifing... I think it is the influence of my husband who prefers it that way....and since my 6yr old loves everything I make, is the the only adult critic I show things to on a frequent basis! :) I live to please! :)

Flourishes Peaches stamp set with SU cardstock and designer paper from a scrap kit....probably from long ago. Michaels cheap orange satin ribbon....twine that found on Amazon for cheap to make my order up to a 25$ to get my free shipping :) hehe... the tag is a sticker from the SU kit also. Copics were YG 03, 17, 67--YR 07, 04 and some other one or two.

I made this card for another of the birthdays we have coming up in a few days. My sister in la I think will enjoy this one!

Main image from Flourishes colored with copics R90s or is it 80s...85, 83, 81 I guess
cut out with a spellbinder and edged in stickles.

The pink paper cut like ribbon is stamped wih Papertrey Ink sentiment of Celebrate from "out on a limb".

Both the pink and striped paper is from a TAC (the angel company) that is old and I used it from the leftovers from a series of scrapbook pages I made.

Green CS is wasabi from SU and the embossing is a cuttlebug folder swiss dots.
The pink dots are from michaels long ago and were not even rom the scrapping section!

In about 2 weeks our families will be coming together to celebrate 8 birthdays for June and July....and I will need several girly cards and felt inspired to actually create!

My card features K and company patterned paper (summery set on clearance forever ago.)

Challenged to do a Polaroid 2step masking.

I did 2 because my first doesn't show the technique as well, but I still loved the card that I finished it and have a plan for the person I am going to send it to! Out on a Limb stamp set from PaperTrey Ink, along with the sentiment and die cut from there also. Tiny tags or something. Cuddlebug folder on the Brown SU cardstock embossing....looks like twigs. Both Inks for the Branches/Berries are Tim Holtz Distress Inks (vintage photo and lipstick stain) And finished off with twine I got from Amazon.com

HERE is the challenge and her sample, and video tutorial of how to do it!

Green Card is unknown cardstock, migh be SU, Kraft CS and Stamp set is Masculine Motifs from Papertrey Ink. The kids and I went on a nature hike and saw several blue dragon flies and lots of green leafs, so that is the inspiration for this card. I never have manly cards hanging around, so I am making the effort with this birthday card.

Sympathy Cards

Just a few days ago, an old friend's grandparent died. I have been feeling for her since I lost my own sister in October. Alhough I don't think I have talked to her since High School, she is on facebook with me and I felt moved to make something to send to her. I don't know if I ca find her address, but at the least, I could send it to her parent's house and it would eventually make it her way.

Entering into the Saturday Challenge found here...for dry or heat embossing, of which, I have both!

This is the first completed card that I have made in over 2 months....or maybe more. Hard to tell. Life starts to blurr together when you have 3 kids @ 2, 4, and 6!

I was inspired by a blog from Papertrey Ink at this post. A jungle I did not have...so I used the background style like her with my copics, similar but not exact colors (my collection is large, but not "I have hundreds of followers of my blog" large!).

Top to bottom the colors of mine are BG 49, BG 10, YG03, YG17, BG15

I did use the Stampin Up Lovely as a Tree stamp set and the Papertrey Ink Out on a limb for the sentiment. I think it turned out as a nice clean and simple but stunning card. thank you Nichole Heady for your inspiration/case!

SO long since my posting!! Lilly's Romper from Ottobre 3/11

It has really be long since my last posting. Not that I haven't been creating....just not posting!

I have made several things for the girls and I am not even sure that I have taken pictures of them all! Here is the latest. The Sea Shell Romper from the 3/11 Ottobre. I left off the pockets due to the busy nature of the fabric and only had enough rickrack for the bodice and not around the legs. This was the first time that I had ever put on rickrack and glad that I decided to....it wasn't that hard, actually kinda easy. And it really makes it look so much nicer! Kinda professional!

I haven't been making cards. That is on my list to, but I have been makng clothes for the girls since their summer clothes have been limited. I also have been making scrapbook pages. I am super far behind on scrapping! I have not finished my 4yr old's first year of scrapping! Boy am I behind. Bt little by little, I will get the past done....and eventually catch up on the more current stuff.

Sewing DAY!!!

First off I thought I needed to make Alexandra an Easter dress. She has NO clothes right now. I think the clothes that I have made for her makeup the majority of her wardrobe. She had no dresses that were spring like. I grabbed a few fabrics and offered Alex her choice and she picked the blue and purple option. So, I grabbed the newest Ottobre the summer 3/11 issue that I got on Tuesday....I think. I traced the pattern called Tropical blend in european size 104 (all the while LIl in nap and ALex and Isaac outside playing.) and cut the fabric. Did the whole thing....no piping and did a rolled hem to keep the extra length....and be quicker of course. I did metal snaps at the shoulders instead of buttons.

Of course, my darling girl is not very modest, so I grabbed the 1/11 ottobre issue and traced off the cinnamon leggins and cut those out of yellow cotton/lycra (yellow in centers of the flowers on the dress) in size 104, length of the 110. I made cuffs for the waist and the legs to be faster and not have to break out the coverstitch (more b/c I didn't want to change the threads!).

So....Lilly wakes up and the Easter outfit is completed. We make dinner from the leftover chili from Fridays lunch.....and I thread the serger tails back into the seams while waiting for Lilly and Isaac to finish eating before we had dessert....all done.

BUT....the sewing bug bit me hard...and I cut out the Cocos ruffle skirt pattern from the 1/11 ottobre and take some chez ami stretch twill and I got all done with that skirt except the waist ...waiting for some elastic once I can try it on Alex. See the almost adorable skirt below

Plum Tree Ottobre Dress for Lilly with Amy Butler

I have had this cut out for Lilly for 6months and last night and today I have gotten it finished.

I did a little bit of changing from the original pattern from the Finish pattern magazine Ottobre, issue 03/10

I changed the ribbon design from being vertical to horizontal and placed the buttons in the same place. I omitted the pockets since I thought the fabric design was busy enough without pockets adding distraction.

The buttons are from my mother's collection of mother of pearl buttons that she has gathered over many years. The lacy trim is from walmart...I purchased it for card making and scrapbooking, but I like the way it looked with the fabric when I was trying to figure out what trims I had to match.

You can see from the closeup that I still have work to do and much room for improvement when you see the zipper at the back. The rest of the dress came together easily, but I am still not very good on zippers.

Sonic the Hedgehog Applique Tshirt

Here is what I made for Isaac for his birthday. Boy gets so many wonderful great shape hand me downs that he is never in need, so I only make him something for his birthay...and this year he has been into Sonic the Hedgehog in a crazy way. I think he has gotten 4 games this year and one for the gameboy in addition. However, there is no great way to find Sonic clothes....so I made him one!

First, I went online and found a picture that looked easy to copy. I found this picture where it was meant to teach how to draw sonic.

I printed out the picture, cut out the different color parts, white, black, blue parts.

I then used them as patterns to cut out the WONDER UNDER, (kinda like iron on double sided sticky tape for fabic).

Ironed the pieces onto the right color fabric, peeled off the back of the wonder under (now stuck to the correct colored fabric) and started to iron on the white and black parts onto the blue head, then ironed on the whole thing onto the front panel of the grey shirt I had cut out to make for him.

(the shirt was an ottobre pattern from the 06/09 issue for jammies but it fits him nicely and it was already traced out and ready to go.

Stablizer used for embroidery and appliques was put on the back and pinned on.

Sewed a tight zig zag around the outside of sonic, then changed color of threads, and did the whites and followed by the blacks.

Assembled the shirt and volia, Isaac's Sonic the Hedgehog shirt for his birthday.

I started making the sonic part while the kids were doing crafts (baby in nap), then did all the outline sewing and putting together the shirt after kids were in bed. One day project. Although, the shirt fabric had been cut out (waiting and waiting for me to make something!!!) I was late on it. I made it ON his birthday, and he wore it the next day at school.

I have been inspired by several challeges today....

Cupcake Craft Challenge for Up in the Air and option green (have a little green)
Double Dutch challenged for a creation (not into recipie cards, but bunny has a cupcake!)
Crafts 4 eternity gave me the color palette of aqua, green, purple
Sketch n stash gave me the design layout with their sketch
Crazy Challenge challenged us to use brads or eyelets
Creative inspirations challenged us to make an Easel Card (this is my first one!! had to look up the tutorial on splitcoaststampers.com so I could do it!!)
And finally Paper Sundaes challenged us to keep it simple, and I think I did that very well!

The cardstock is Stampin Up, dewdrops are fakes from Michaels. Aqua paper and patterned paper I got from TAC years ago, called a little Whimsy. Perfect for the color challenge!! I used Copics to color in the Lili of the Valley stamp, which is my first time using him! So cute! (c03,05-bg000, 02, 05--yg01, 03, 17-v09, 06)

Black brads was from SU when I was a demo, which was before i was a mother! And my oldest is 5.5yrs old!!! Come to think of it, all my SU stuff is that old! I have only bought black, metallic and white cs and have never had to buy more color CS because I had bought so much as a demo!!

Sweet Windswept Spring Birthday

It has been a long time since I have been craftin and I almost didn't get to make anything today because I couldnt find my C pad for my cuttlebug!!!! Grrrr....but I found it under my nose and I got busy.

Today, I have been challenged by THE SUGAR BOWL to use a sketch, BELLS AND WHISTLES and MAGICAL MONDAYS to think spring, and KABOODLE DOODLES for a birthday card.

This card will be for my mother, whose birthday is in April and she loves green. Although I used brown, those greens/yellows just make it scream spring to me!

Today I made 2 cards, one with my NEW Lili of the Valley Stamps from the UK and one with Papertrey Ink "In Celebration" stamp set.
The first is this adorable little gal, whom is colored with copics (r20, 24, 27) and I used tip to tip technique since I didn't have the R22 color to blend well. I think it went rather nicely. I learned this at a 4 hr copic class from a certified copic gal Dionne (her blog here)
CS is from SU, patterned paper is DCWV Whimsy stack, silver satin ribbon from Michaels, silver embossing, sewing machine, Spellbinders circle, big scallops and fancy tags. Sentiment is from Gina K along with the oval stamp around it. Embellished with faux dew drops from Michaels. Stickles on wings, wand and antaneas are "icicles". I love the end look. She is just so stinkin adorable!

European Size 80 using Michael Miller /patty young aqua interlock knit.

I made this for Lilly to match the purple fleece top she is pictured in.

Of course all the other kids had to get into the picture...and it made Lilly happy and willing to pose, so I used them.

Observations on pattern:
I believe the name of these pants are Acrobatics. The waist is too loose....but that might be the type of knit that I used. Lilly is perfectly sized at the 80 by measurements..all of them, but the length of the pants is *almost* too short. So if you are making them, make sure to measure your inseam so you are not left with MC hammer capris....

Although unusual, I do like them on my 19 month old. Not sure if I would try to do these for my 5 yr old, she might be too picky about the style.

I just recently got Charlotte from the Kraftin Kimmie birthday sale. I have always just loved her and now that my 18m baby girl is now starting to love on baby dolls, well, it is even more perfect!

I actually had her done and almost ready to put on the card for last week's challenge, but never could make it look quite right....so she just sat unfinished most of the week on my desk. So I decided to just hurry up, and make it into a challenge card for this week, which is a sketch...can view here.

Stripe paper from KandCompany stack from summer. Green and brown CS from SU. Green CS embossed with a cuttlebug folder. Brown cs cut with Nestie. Happy Birthday stamp from GIna K designs, and of course Charlotte has bee colored with copics.

She will also be put into the Kindergarten "keep in touch" basket that will be in the auction at the carnival at Alexandra's school.

A thank you card with the main image from Flourishes and entered into their challenge which was use 3 pattern papers. I colored the image with copics and since the apples and flowers were warm colors, I entered it into the Copic Creation Challenge also. I actually used 2, the brown diecut with a nestie and the tag that has the sentiment on it was a wood grain pattern. I created a patterned paper with cuttlebug and then distressed it. bright. I also used the diamond pattern or checks...which is the challenge over at Totally Gorjuss Challenge.

The green cs is from SU, the pattern papers from DCWV recycled pack. Sentiment is from Gina K designs. All the papers were distressed using Tim Holtz inks...walnut and main image with linen. The ABC challenge was to make old-fashioned and that is what I used the distressing inks for....plus I liked how it toned down the green, which was very bright. I think it was the green galore!

This card will be put in a basket for a "keep in touch" theme at my oldest child's kindergarten class. It will be in an auction at the carnival. Hope people like what I am doing!

Made for Valentines day and several challenges, here is Lilth in love.

Kraftin Kimmie stamp colored with copics, peach paper unkown CS, patterned paper is an old DCWV stack...so old I don't know when and the stack fell apart a long while ago.

Because she is in love and a valentine.... I sponged distess ink in worn lipstick around her. What a nice rosey glow of love it made. I just got it yesterday, so I had to use it!!! I was very excited!

Her feet stick out just a tad from the circle nestie by using the out of the box technique found on splitcoast

The peach cardstock was lightly sponged with distress ink walnut stain. Helps it stand out more as the peach was too pale.

The chocolate chip CS from SU is sponged over a template of tim holtz's with a flourish. I used the walnut stain again. Very faint but adds some texture without being overwhelming. This might be for my darling Husband, and he doesn't like too much crazy stuff on cards. Whenever he watches as I browse on blog hops or whatnot, he often "scoffs" at the over embellished cards....and only seems to allow it at christmas. He is odd....I guess, or I am...who knows!

The "love" stamp is from TAC and was sponged with walnut and the circle is a faux brad was made by using the stencil's tag that had a hole to hang it on the hook at the self...and sponged again in walnut.

Winter Thaw Challenge at Flourishes...

I don't really have the flowers that BREAK through the snow...but at least I do have a spring flower that I always look forward to. We have 5 lilac bushes in our yard and we constantly have them on our dining table during the summer. It helps that my littlens love to pick things! :)

The 2 little ones have been sleeping really long....so I have two posts in one day!

Drucilla from Kraftin Kimmie has been stamped in momento ink and colored in copics.

She is cut out and mounted on an old patterned paper from DCWV stack, cut out/embossed with spellbinder label nestie.

I embossed the sentiment from Flouishes (From lilac or waterlillies stamp sets...have both sets in a case) in silver and layered on SU dk brown CS.

Two more patterned papers, kinda unknown.... are layered under.

I love how she turned out. I wish I had pewter colored embossing powder to show up more, but I love it anyways, I think it compliments the corner bling....was going to put a hardware corner in pewter in the bottom right corner, but decided against it.

I am trying to figure out what i wrong with this card. I made it for the challenge over at Kraftin Kimmie blog, but for some reason....it doesn't look goo din my eyes. I need to fix it but don't know what would do it. Please let me know if you have an idea on what to do to make it better....cause it needs...somethin!

I have 3 little ones 5 and under and so I color when I can, then store the images that are colored for future use. My oldest dd loves to color, so it is great thing for us to do together without havin to drag out all the crafty stuff and have to tell her no no no that she can't use them! :) I am a little possive about my stuff.

Now...a little about Lilith and her froggy. The bow made out of tulle is left over a tutu I made my son (hes 3 and had to have one like his big sis!)

Last week my oldest had her 100th day of kindergarten on Friday and today I am on my 100th post!

The last few days I have worked on this card, one for the Flourishes Challenge.

The challenge was to use hardware. I have had these pewter clips forever, but never used them. However, I was inspired to use it as the challenge host used one of these.

Christmas Shirt/Gift fixed! Ottobre/Patty Young

So I made this Ottobre raglan out of Michael Miller Patty Young designed kit to match the pink cords she already had from a yard sale.

I accidentally made two ottobres in one. I made the 4/08 silija top and the sweet and cosy raglan. I meant to only do the sweet n cosy with the elastic thread at the arms, but used the front panel from the silija that needed gathering....which I didnt do since I accidentally did it wrong. So on christmas morning when she tried it on, the neckline was super baggy!

But now, a month later, I fixed it and today she wore it was willing to actually pose!

Sewing done...a walk down memory lane

Last Sunday we went to my parents' house to help out with computer/new phone issues and I spent some time with my little girls down in the basement play area. I went through the dolly clothes and found myself reliving feelings and memories of childhood. I recently lost my sister a few months ago and I had spent much time playing dolls with her, so this was a nice way to remember her.

However, I found several clothes in disrepair. So, I bagged them up and brought them home. Yes, my husband looked at me like I am crazy. But only a little, Jim! I always have a ton of projects cluttering up my backroom/craftroom because I have the greatest of intentions, but not the best follow through.

But, I finally did the several small fixes that needed to be done in both the childrens' clothes and the dolly too! (children clothes fixes in next post...once i get my kindergartener to model for them!)

This doll was made by my Grandma Grace who passed away 11 years ago on Valentines day. I found the hat on Sunday and the elastic was all stretched out, so I put on new elastic and her hat is good as new. I keep this doll on my rocking chair cuddled up in a blanket that my sister made me. It was probably the only thing I have every been given by her, so it the blanket has significant value to me.

Next is Naked Doll....who my littlest at 18months loves...but she never has clothes. I found this wonderful rose flannel dress from childhood with a ton of ripped seams. I fixed the ripped seams, added some snaps at the back instead of the one small button. Now naked doll is not so naked, she is kinda cute.

Apparently my grandma or mother didn't make this, but might have come with my sister to my parent's house when they adopted her. Seeing as it is our shared history, I have claimed it as mine.

And finally, I have the Lilly's (18month) newest doll. Baby Alive. She is never naked, but now she has a new stylish outfit. Added new snaps at the back and fixed the ribbons on the hat, which were fraying at the ends in an out of control way.

Now I have gotten 6 unfinished projects done.....and ony a million left...

I think I see my grandmother looking down at mme with kind approving eyes, glad to see that some of her effort in sewing had paid off and that I have become a domestic "diva" of sort. My sister, I suspect, would be smirking a little, surprised to have seen her little sister turning into such a domestic! I was always heavy into sports, then very into my educational pursuits. Sewing was not even on the horizon....but not only do I sew the diapers for all my babies, started sewing their clothes, started sewing my own (not to wear in public yet, but hoping I get there!) and repairing items for family, friends and now my memories! Hope my girls enjoy the items that I have saved for them. Should I ever catch up on all the items I want to make, need to do and the such, I would like to make them some baby clothes for their dolls too....so they have them for their own memories of me and their dollies when they are all grown up.

I actually cut these out on last Thursday night, and sewed them on Friday during the littlest's nap. The only problem, I didn't finish hemming the bottoms of the tops.

So today I get out my serger..the first one I got that was cheap but does a good rolled hem...and will do a rolled hem at the bottom of both girls' tops.

Today my kids are still on Christmas break due to a (ill timed) staff records day and they are playing nicely (unusual) and not getting into trouble, so I have been able to finish a few unfinished projects. I also might be able to get more done since my husband has the day off for newyears today...maybe. although it is past noon and he hasn't actually taken charge of them officially. :)

I fixed a rip in my uncles jacket..finally...after about 6months! :) hehe, just not a person who does things that "have to" be done. I do what I am inspired to do.

I finished my dd#1's jammie pants. I got the top and pants done without a waistband. But she insisted on keeping it on when I asked her to check out the sizing on it. (I made an Ottobre in size 92/98, but pant length of a 104 and arms of 104, and torso length of a 110) Worked out well, but she refused to take it off. pants had enough lycra in them to stay up, so it stayed for a few days till I grabbed them out of the wash today to finish them before she could steal them away again.

I finished the Ottbre Sunday shirt from the 06/09 issue. It was made from a Michael Miller fabric designed by Patty Young which I got from fabric.com on super sale to match a pair of cute grey cords given to her from her aunt who found them as a deal at a garage sale this year....but no matching top was found, so I made it.

I wanted it to be a christmas present, but I didn't get it finished since I was stumped on the collar. Figured it out and finished that a few days ago, tried to put on buttons, but something was messing with my buton holer, so I put on metal snaps and did the hem today. I hope she will wear it for me today so I can add pictures to this post! :)

Now I am working on an apron for my MIL I started it last christmas. Then I was gonna give it to her for her birthday in Nov, but my sister passed away in flordia at 40 and it really screwed up my life for a few months. Life is starting to normalize and I am finding I am smiling more and interested in doing things other then sleep!

Well, I have done the pockets and flounce on it, but need to ask my DH which side of it he would like for it to be the front (double sided)....then I will be able to go forward and finish attaching the flounce and pockets and see if I might venture to start the binding tape that is around the whole thing....and I don't have alot of experience with wovens...and very limited on the binding! Hope it goes well.

AFter the apron, I only have 2 unfinished projects to complete.

1. tunic and underdress for me that is half done.
2. Grey shirt for my 3yr old boy that I want to embroider on that is cut out (ottobre raglan knit)

After my unfinished is done I will be making at least 3 sets of jammies for my oldest dd as she is growing out of all her jammies that others have gotten for gifts for her....she has 2 that fit now!

Brown and Red Christmas Cards

I actually made 2 cards this evening. I was so inspired by the brown polka dot paper that I chose to use for the Kraftin Kimmie Challenge of polka dots, that I even used it on another card seeing how it looked so great together! I used the Card Positioning Systems sketch challenge for the layout. The rest of the details are listed below .....same as my other card, only the image is from Kraftin Kimmie....Lola the painter....this card will go to an artist friend! :)

This second card is for the Totally Gorjuss challenge of using a tree. New stamp from my LLS from Great Impressions spoke to me and is the only stamp that I have that is christmas and tree, so I stamped it up in black momento ink, colored it with copics and used the Spellbinder Label 4 to cut and emboss it.

I used my fake dew drops from Michaels colored with copics, random Hobby Lobby stack patterned paper and the sentiment from Gina K and is embossed in dark brown.

Sponging done in Distress inks...Linen and on the chocolate CS from SU in Walnut. STickles for a little sparkle on the snow.

A Fairy Merry Christmas Card

Parents Anniversery Card

My InLaws have an anniversery...well, had....I am late, but we just got their present....plus my husand, their son, is on a business trip this week, so I won't give it to them till he comes home anyways.

I created this for 2 challenges.... Flourishes challenged us to use Dollies....and the only one I had was in my 5yr old's craft box, so I stole that one and since it was a heart, it is good for the anniversery card I was making. I used the sketch from the Papertake Weekly Challenge for my design.

All sponging done in Holtz distress ink linen....I only have walnut and linen and use them all the time....need to put together a list for my husband and get some new colors....would make good stocking stuffers...hmmm....shopping and emailing will comence tonight after kids are asleep!

I just made this card for the Pixie Cottage Challege. I was practicing shadding on the hair and skin from a tutorial since I am not the best. I like the way she turned out. My husband could even tell which way the light was shining on her, so I am improving. I didn't shade her dress, I like to keep cards a little simple.

I really didn't have funky fibers as the Kraftin Kimmie challenge called for, so I created one by sewing my Michaels silver satin ribbon and gathering it to make it funky. Really looks quite nice!
SU cardstock, copic coloring...(abiet sad shading job, just couldn't get it to blend!) Unknown stack summer patterned paper. Will make some little gal a very great birthday card!

I made these thank yous for my mother to use since she has run out. She needs alot for my sister's memorial service last week. So I had to keep them simple and not too much extra things on them so I could make several. I also used up scraps that I found around, so there are several different variations of this.

Stamp is lovely as a tree from stampin up, embossed in copper. Nestie lacey circle in a paper from a pad from walmart , ovals in white and SU kraft. Blue/Grey cs is from SU but I don't know the name anymore! The Sentiment is from Gina K stamps.

Tonight I am going to be working on the sketch below for some thank yous for my mother to use for those attending my older sister, Annie's memorial here in Indiana. She passed away at 40 in florida at the beginning of October. Cause of death was unknown. She was able to be an organ doner at least.

My mom has run out of TYs so I will be making these tonight after the rug rats are in bed and try to get the results posted! :)

I also Have a KRAFTIN KIMMIE challenge of funky fibers and have decided that I would just try to do something with ribbon, either ruffling it by sewing or by doing some sort of alteration to make it "funky".

I am going to be making a birthday card for the "all that scraps wed challenge" and I think I will pair the kraftin kimmie challenge with this and make one style! :)

I have a 7kids college fund challenge to "give thianks" card to make and the card patterns challege to make with this sketch.... I have my work cut out for me this evening!

Red patterned paper from DCWV christmas pack a few years ago....trying to use up the stash!! NO New Christmas stuff!!! Edge punch from Michaels and distressed with my nail :)

The green striped paper is also DCWV and is sewn to the cs and distressed with walnut holtz distress ink.

The gold sheer ribbon is twisted and adhered to the card and the bow made with the bow easy is tied to the twisty ribbon with a gold cord.

Pretty simple, but I like the outcome! thanks for looking!

Gorjuss Girl Christmas Challenge Sketch

I made this card for the Gorjuss Girl sketch challenge and love how it turned out! I didn't even case....which is usually my mo, but I am changing and doing my own thing always now.

Stamped in memento ink and colored with copics, except shoes which were a black gellyroll pen. Both patterned papers are DCWV holiday pack from at least 1 or 2 yrs ago. Spellbinder label 8 on black and emboseed and on patterned paper, trimmed so I would have a small black frame.

white flowers colored with copics (copics used were r43, r46, r59) for image also with pearl brads on inside from michaels several yrs ago....(i am trying to stop being a horder!)

Setiment is from Gina K on a spellbinder fancy label cut out.

I decided it was too crowded at the bottom and changed the layout a little to be the second picture, which I like much better!

I am pretty sure this card will go to my gal pal in Chicago who has a little 2 yr old with a bit of an attitude....but will do anything if she is allowed to wear her boots. So the inside will say... "I want my boots!"

Shades of Blue-- Just Because Card

I created this card for the Flourishes Challenge for their new release of winter stamps, making shaes of blue. this was actually hard for me as blue is not my go to color!

I used momento ink for the image-Kraftin Kimmie stamp on Papertrey cardstock and colored with copics( BG000, 02, 05). Image cut and framed with Spellbinders label 4. Black mat has paper piercing free handed on it. Sponged in Holtz distress ink linen.

Her pettycoat has been colored with gellyroll pen silver. Ribbon from michaels on sale!! Bow made with bow easy (purchased last night at my local stamp store (lss) at their make and take....

Background stamped in versaink and embosed with an old stampin up glitter embossing powder. Can't remember where stamp is from! Sponged again in linen.

Tempting Turquoise cs from stampin up is embossed with cuttlebug folder.

Setiment is from Gina K designs and fits the Spellbinder Fancy Tags that I just got also.

The image reminds me of my oldest daughter...5, who is headstrong and loves animals....and this summer has been obsessed with finding toads/frogs under every rock! She even sneaked one into the house, up to her room and housed him in her doll house. When I found him, i thought he was just a statue (she has lots of animal statues like that) and went to touch him and he started to jump around her room! Ahh....

Ottobre 01/08 Rose Dress

The dress is longer then the pattern calls for, but our church is old school, not a leggins kinda church. Other then the

problem with the ribbon being crooked on one side

Dress pretty simple, zipper in back is horrible if you know those things, but luckily she moves to fast for anyone to notice. Binding at neckline is a Patty young fabric by michael miller that has same colors, but not same flowers, but I think it works.

First non pink thing in a while that I have done for her.....kinda sick of pink! Right now I am ready to do different. She has orange and black day on Tuesday next week, so I am planning on doing something for that...I have some tie dyed velour that is white orange and black. If nothing else, I will make her velour pants and mate then with a orange shirt I made this summer for her.

More to come....got new serger....next post will be about my journey on that one....then the 2 shirts I made for Lilly in one night (they were already cut out...) and tonight I take a sewing break for some cleaning and then a night of scrapbooking and on to the orange and black...and the orange and blue space top that my 3 yr old Isaac has been hounding me about. Then finishing all the UFOs I have going on....and then on to halloween...or more church dresses....something like that. We only have 2 church dresses for Alex now, and some are too short....skinny and tall...errrrrr....not good ....fits a 3/4, but needs 5/6 for modesty! :) More to come..............

Ottobre 03/07 Girl Romper with changes for Lilly

I left off the frills of the sides and the pocket.

I gathered pocket and did a binding on a woven twill from chezami.com also.

I have yet to add the buttons, to see what I can find. I might go with either plastic or open ring

metal snaps.

I have not finished the bottoms....because it is now finished and she is sound asleep.

Since this romper is actually made to be shorts, I lengthened it myself and don't know how close I came....

If they are a good length, I will do a rolled hem and do elastic thread shirring 2-3" deep at the bottom like in the new ottobre 04/10....I think it would look cute.

If they are too short, I will take some of that solid woven aqua twill and make cuffs. I will make them wide enough to make the pants a normal length--and gather the legs into he cuffs making a ballooning look....

Tight pants don't look good on her right now with her poofy, fluffy cloth diaper bottom, billowing pants are what looks best! Thanks for looking!

Baby Jammies--Ottobre 4/04 Winter Issue

Long Sleeve Top and footed jammies bottoms.

I am clearing out my stash in random places and found a half yard of lt blue velour and since my 13m old darling was super cold when I brought her to my bed in the middle of the night to nurse, I figured she needed footed jammies to keep her warm.

She has no warm jammies--it is hot here in Indiana in Aug, but then I crank up the air in our room and she gets cold and doesn't keep on a blanket...

So....lt blue velour it was. Had to make it the wrong way against the grain, so they are big. Since she wears disposible diapers at night, they will fit okay and do.

The small amount of the blue velour left I used to free hand a applique onto a long sleeve tee shirt for her to make them match. The neckline used a heavy matte FOE for diapers that was a miracle color match, but since it is so much heavier then the lycra blend cotton knit fabric top

Ottobre Barbara Ladies Top and knit skirt

Okay, so the skirt is unfinished, I will do i eventually. Notice the uneven hem...or bottom since it is raw...but enough room to fix still.

I like the Barbara top from the 2/10 ottobre women's issue, but with this cheap fabric that doesn't drape, it isn't the greatest. I will try to do it again with something nicer. I feel like I have a "uni boob" hehe... I am sure that I would like it more if I wasn't overweight....but I am working on that! :)

Oh...and Thanks to my 5 yr old for taking the picture! :) I was talking when she took it, so that is why my face is so wonky! :)

Getting things done....

today I finally got some things finished....hemmed a pair of pants for Lilly....now just have to see if there are any tops to match it or I will have to make something for it! :)

I did a few more steps on the "Barbara" ladies top from the Ottobre Women issue 2/2010. I am almost finished, might be able to finish it tomorrow.

A visit to Walmart helped me get boxes (file type) to fill up for each kid with their "creations" through the years. A few boxes to contain Alex's Little Pet shop stuff....

Finally, we went to Hobby Lobby and got two things...a photo box and a frame for our family picture....which we have had since mother's day...yep, I am really behind. :)

The photo box is now filled with picures that are ready and identified by year/month so I can scrapbook. I am only half done with this project, but am started and when I have it all organized, it will be much easier for me to be able to scrapbook them all. If I am organized and can only do one topic at a time, I am more likely to get it done....plus I want to make sure that I have all the pictures I need for it. I still have to find a few pictures from my husband's sd cards and possibly his computer....but them I will have them all organized on the backup harddrive and will have them all uploaded and ready to buy from snapfish. I am thinking I will buy the all at once from snapfish considering that you get free shipping over $30 and I already have 200 in the cart and it is growing!

I belive that my DH already went and put the family picture into the frame....

For tomorrow--fill the boxes with kid stuff and try to get things hung on the wall. If I get those things done, a bunch of clutter will be gone and that is the goal!

Some Sewing for Kids DONE!!

Okay, so really these are pretty old, by about a month, I just never got them off the camera and posted! :) finally getting some odd jobs done before school hits! Of course it is rather ironic though, seeing that as a stay at home mom with a first time Kindergardener and a 1st time preschooler, I will actually have more alone time to get things done (Lilly below is 1 and takes a morning nap!)

Okay, so lilly is sporting an Ottobre summer edition "toffee" top and "hennia" pants. Didn't go great, but I have had compliments on it and I guess it is decent.

Here is my crazy Kindergardener Alex(andra) sporting her mama made swimsuit...bound with FOE, material from www.chezami.com (whom is now having a super sale....but I don't know if I am going to get any...ah....I don't need any, I don't need any!!!)
Both are Ottbre patterns, a tank and undies combo--but it worked! :)

And finally, I haven't left out my little man....Isaac--going to preschool for the first time next month....he is 3 and in love with super heros--so I made his Tshirt with Joanne fabric of BUzz lightyear and his shorts too....both from ottobre--"Ahoy" shorts and "snug fit" Tshirt--some summer issues. both in 92

I actually made myself a Tank Top and it looks great, but I need to wash it and get DH to take a picture of me in it before I post it! Off to try and get my Alex to help me make Banana Bread in the BREADMAKER....because here in Indiana, it is too hot and steamy to open up that oven!!! AHHH!

New Sewing Accomplishment: Making my own Bias Tape

So...I am currently on the kick of trying something new every week to keep me motivated and doing lots of sewing.

I made a muslim of this dress from the Ottobre sized up for Alex--made from Anglina ballerina fabric that I dislike. I plan on making th real thing for Lilly in the right size in some super cute fabrics that coordinate and do self made bias tape out of a stripes and the body of the dress out of a dots fabric and make an applique of a butterfly on butterfly corrdinating print fabric that matches the other.

Here is the dress I made for alex...she does love it....it is the fabric....for her, she loves it if it twirls, has a beloved character or is pink and princess or butterflies or the such.

This weeks new item: appliques....a batman applique on an ottobre raglan top for Isaac's birthday. Almost done....good thing, because we celebrate tomorrow for his party! The next project will be this same top for Lilly but with an applique and designer fabric!

Beyond that---I am doing Easter dresses and even making a cute outfit for a little boy too!

Car Seat Recovering--UFO is done Yea, UFO is done YEA!

Okay, so I have a baby ready to bust out of her infant seat and wanted to recover her brother's black/grey one before *trying* (with fingers crossed) to fit it with the other 2 car seats in the back of the Corolla....Tomorrow is a nice day, so I guess I will have to try....Since I finally got it recovered!

I know I know...not supposed to recover. BUT...I didn't just cover it, I took the old one apart--big seam ripper day---and then covered each piece, sewed it back together (with the old one underneath) and then used my own FOE (lt pink)to bind it instead of thick ucky black stuff that is now in a landfill. Of course, it is better a little black binding in a landfill then a whole seat b/c I went to buy a girly one since there are no replacements available from the manufactuer.

I am happy. Hope it fitsin the car!!!.

OH...and it is a UFO--UnFinished Object.

I planned on not starting new projects till all my ufos are done...but last night I fell off the wagon (that wagon that I promised on MONDAY I would stay on... :)

I did those 2 body suits last night--but did them start to finish which is a BIG accomplishment for me! Oh...and the yellow velour one did NOT fit over her head...so now it IS a UFO and needs modification to fit...thinking split the back neck, add a tab with a snap ...might work...hope so cause it looks pretty decent! The turquoise one is on her now and MATCHES some CUTE CUTE fabric I have been wanting to use for a long time...now I know my next project....since I did get a ufo done--

maybe I should do one more UFO first....the Olivia from Farbenmix that is cut and waiting...out of hello kitty knit for my dd#1. Made one for her friends birthday and never finished hers! :)

But, on to bed as it is now the next day....happy thursday!

All were under 3.00 and even with some white interock being over the 3.00 mark and shipping, they evened out at under 3.50/yd...pretty good!

Here is the 2 body suits that need snaps yet... the "Puolukka" bodysuits from Ottobre 06/09 and I hope they fit over lilly's head...neck seems small..but I followed the pattern!

A few lessons learned about the coverstitch binder I used as seen below!

Here is the Velour bound binding that looks fine, but I placed the binder to far to the right and it didn't catch the raw edge with the needle on the right side of the fabric...oops, at least it isn't a woven and will ravel, and, well it will be right between her legs, not showing!

One side done right! Yea for me!

OOPS, on this one I accidently put the binding on upside down or on the wrong side...again, at least it isn't visible when wearing! :)

Few lessons learned...next time>I WILL have perfect binding!!!

Hope they fit, but it is too late to wake her up and try it on her tonight....and it doesn't match the green outfit I have slated for her to wear to morrow--but I might have to try it on her anyways! Pictures to follow! :)

Doing Soak Off Gel Nail Polish at home....my first time

Okay, so I did it. I got my nails done for free at by my hair gal with OPI gel nails that are soak off polish, not length, just for polish and loved it. After 2 weeks I went back and got it done and paid for it and love them...but just can't afford to keep paying that...

so...I went online and did some research and found places to buy opi gel polish kits (ebay and amazon), but it was expensive-- ($100 and you still need a uv light), and I wasn't thrilled with color choices at the salon (which are the same as found in the kit). So I started looking at all the other companies and found on ebay and sally beauty supply stores the IBD gel nail polish system.

FYI: I got my uv light and all ibd products on ebay--I got a bonder, clear gel, color gel, top coat

The pictures below and the lessons learned by my husband and myself... (yup, he helped me--he used to be an artist and doesn't mind doing nails--does Alexandra's (4.5yr old) all the time)

1st lesson--NEED LOTS OF LIGHT--there is a reason that salons are bright and they have the spotlight at the manicure table! If you can't see well, you paint against your cuticle and edgewall--which we/I did alot. As seen in the picures.

The chips in the pictures and at the cuticles are from me trying to remove the extra gel stuff over my cuticles and the sidewalls.

Secondly--I put on WAY WAY too much bonder. It is really runny and it will roll down to the sides of your nail as it cures and turn out too thick on the sides and attach to the skin and lift lift lift . I found this website info helpful about bonder and how to apply AND a removal system that isn't the normal "soaking" but wrapping in soaked cotton and foil. I will be trying this as a mom with hands is better then one with her hands stuck in a bowl of acetone!

Next, I finally went looking for any more "at home" tips and had forgotten about Utube! Duh. I found a bunch of videos on applying gel polish. Worth looking there.

Tonight--trying out the wrapping nail off system to take off the messed up polish and try anew on Thursday or Friday!

Olivia dress in owls and ottobre leggings in velour

Excuse the fat mama in the picture...didnt kow daddy was going to snap the picture. But Lilly looks so adorable in the picture that I had to post it!

Here you can see the leggings from the 06/08 Ottobre called "Lelle" I made them in size 74 for my 8month old....just didn't add a seam allowance. I am going to be sizing up soon. I am pretty sure that I am not going to make summer clothes till she stablizes in size or sumer is here!

The Owl interlock is from buytheyardandmore coop on yahoo. I love owls, so even though she was called a boy today, I don't care, I love them!

The dress is the Olivia from Farbermix. I traced it yesterday, cut it and sewed it all in one evening after she feel asleep at 10pm. Less then an hour for this dress!

It is size 1/2 and she will easily be wearing this all next winter with a new pair of leggings of course!

HMMM>....now what do I make next...someting to match the orange leggins before they are too small! :)

Nails Done!!! So Pretty!

So, I have joined weight watchers and have been good all week and been working real hard to make this house stay clean and have done really well....

So.....

I treated myself to a gel nailpolish manicure from my fav hairstylist!

2.5 weeks ago, I attended an "nail party" by my stylist Jessica, but was only one of 3 who said they would show who did. So, she showed me her gel nailpolish on me for free.

I have bad nails, I used to bite, I bite my cuticles and it looks bad. My nails are brittle and crack and peel.

But the gel polish is hard and stayed great for 2 weeks without chips or any problems....just shows the grow out, which is nice.

It made me put on makeup, do my hair, take time for myself, join weight watchers. It made me want to look and feel nice. And all for free....so I went back and got it done as a treat for trying to be good to myself.

I made the "Elly" raglan shirt with shirring on the front and the "Goofy Tweed" pants from the Ottobre 06/08

I used FOE to bind the neckline and didn't do the greatest, but I loved loved doing the shirring! It is super cute and much easier then I expected. Having sucess on you first try is a great thing! :)

I did have a problem with the foe and have to figure out what I did wrong, will have to ask my ottobre english yahoo group.

Here she is in her new outfit. Pants are a fine cordurory and the top is melon check lycra knit from Chez Ami.

Got more done!!! Love feeling accomplished! :)

So, here is Alex in a hilda/tilda 07 ottobre tunic, but no matching pants...did make those. As seen here...but they are not finished, wanted to wait till she could try them on before doing the waist and the hem.

Next I made the tunic from the 1/10 ottobre that has all the shirring--that is seen left, and that is size 74--12 month size...yep, looks like it is for mama...not baby. It has all the hems done and the only thing I need to do is to shirr it....but I want to practice first, as that is really cute fabric and I want to try it on cheap stuff first. I have some 2$ tinker flannel that I will make the same shirt in for Alex (this blue is for Lilly) and do my first shirring on it! :)

Now...the Cord pants here are the "goofy" tweed pants from 6/08 ottobre
I need to do the hem of the leg vents and then finish the bottom then they are finished. Few places there are "user errors" but I don't think it will be too noticeable. Making for my SWAP for Lilly's spring clothes. (not finishing them b/c I need to get a different machine out for it and it is 1AM right now...)

The last two pictures are of a top from the 4/09 ottobre the anome tunic, made out of an old shirt of mine and a clearance PJ pants with tinkerbell on it from walmart. Not sure ow the neck is gonna look. It has a bit of starch on it , so it might lay better after washing....Or I hope so at least. Goodness, I hope I can figure out the binder attachment for my coverstitch machine when it comes b/c I NEED the help for sure! The pants do look wonky, that is b/c I just sewed. No pattern... I had the fabric and just sewed. I will fix it once I put them on her and see what it looks like. If they look like pants, then she can wear as is, if they are looking more like leggins and the shirt is too short for it (she is long torso-ed), then I will have to make another piece to go with it to hide her bottom. I do have a green w/ white sm polka dot pincord fabric that is from chez ami that I *think* is a match with Tinker's dress. If it is, I will try out that new skirt in the 1/10 ottobre. One of the few skirts that I will make and allow my little crazy to wear....she has no concept of how to "be a lady" she is a bit of a tomboy 4.5yr old....but she loves dresses...so this might work. When something is ACTUALLY Finished I will post more, but I feel very good. Before the Colts win the superbowl tomorrow night, I will have at least 3 of the 4 above projects finished....and I am sure I will have started another one or two! :)

Actually got a few things done....

other day I did my tracings of my ottobre patterns for my swap. still have a few more to do, but made a good dent.

I took my machine into be serviced....will have to do all my serging and coverstitching as much as possible so I can be ready when my basic machine comes back.

cleaned up my mess of a sewing area....and diaper fabric store storage area. Still have a little more to do to be efficient. But to be more efficient, I need to move out some things that are just laying about and not needed or being used...

so....I posted things to be rid of on DS--things I don't use, so great prices...and I have 2 already gone...well, pending as the $$ isn't in my account yet, but as quick as it was jumped on, I think it will be gone soon. Just need to get the prefolds gone and the diapers, then I will have a good size crate to put pkgs in that are waiting for their shipping payments for my store.

I did get all orders cut and weighted and ready to go when shipping is paid....

Not really tired yet, but should be as it is midnight...so I think I will put the snaps on the romper that does fit Lilly. Looks good, just *almost* done. will post picture later...maybe with her in it!

Still have 2 or three things to finish and then I begin one project at a time...well, maybe two, but only because projects have different stages...like, I am making 3 bonnets for my SIL for her birthday....for her country deco for her home. But I can't always be working in my sewing area with the kids around, so I may be working on my cutting or tracing for my swap projects when kids are playing around in the main part of the house.

Okay, so off to do the snaps on the romper and also on Lilly's coat too...then I will have to post pictures too.

Lilly's Spring SWAP plans

I am doing a SWAP...sewing with a plan.

I am making clothes for Lilly for spring in fun colors and nothing that is a dress....she is starting to learn to crawl, so for the next 6m or until she walks, dresses are not the best for her.

So here is my plan

These are a pair of pants to make...not doing the wiggles at the bottom, but the pattern is subject to change if it is too hard for me. :) I plan on making 2 of these raglan shirts with shirring, the aqua stripes will match the above and the fleece dots jumper below....the pink will match the dots jumper and can go under the apples/pear shirt below too

Fleece to make the jumper-have a melon color rib knit that I will use for the binding.

This jumper is of 2 interlocks--lime, blue and orange stripes and orange interlock, I think blue binding...

The top will be of the butterflies, the binding is going to be of the stripes.

The dots will be for a pair of pants to match, but I couldn't find the pattern for the picture.

I have a RTW (ready to wear) long sleeve onesie to match nicely that needs a home.

The apples/pears will be made into the shirt

if all goes well, I will do a few more pieces before going on to the summer, which is VERY lacking for both my little gals!

Here is my Jamine Jumper that I made from a free pattern on the diaper sewing divas website. Bonnie made this and it is a 0-3 that I sized up to try out on Lilly...but she is asleep, so I will leave her be and will try it tomorrow! It is a purchaseable pattern from nb-12m on her fishsticks website...just google it! she has several patterns and I just purchased this one and one other...I know how easy this one was, so I figure it is a good buy.
This is my first try at an ottobe shirt that I posted about eariler. I tried to size it up to a 4 T and wasn't great at it. The neckline is bad, but it is fine for the pjs they have become. But she won't wear it to bed until I make pants to match...so that is on the list to do!

And here is the worst item I have sewn yet...okay, so I haven't sewn many things, but this is bad. :) I tried to take a pattern for a shorts type romper to long sleeve/long pants and they ended up being uneven...then I misread the instructions on how to make ribbed binding and stretched it...so it ended up making the front all wonky...but overall a great learning experience! Plus, she can still wear them as pjs to bed. Screw ups always end up as pjs! :)

Yep, it is 9pm and my baby is still awake. If she goes to sleep, I will go and clean and then sew sew sew. I want to finish her jumper tonight and finish her big sis's outift. Just need to make one hem and I am finished.

After all that, I will take a break from sewing and do some serious fabric inventory. I have made the decision to open my cloth diaper fabric store back up....and have 200 yards of pul coming from fabrite now and want to have all the stuff here nice and organized and catagorized so I can open up the store easily and stock it quickly!

Okay, so my goal of October is to sew everyday, even if it is just 4 or 5 seams in a project, it is moving me forward. My second is to finish cleaning up and organizing my roll top which has gotten to be a catch all for paperwork that needs to dealt with, but nothing that has to done in a time table....

Granted that half of my sewing today is being ripped out again, but live and learn!

Will post once I actually get these ladybug outfits finished. :)

Ladybug Raglan Tee and Romper for Lilly and Alex from Ottobre

So, I had a subscription to the Findland Ottobre Magazine and I am finally making something from it, actually two things. Below it is the first that I am making for Alex out of blue ladybug fabric. the info is all here that you see....no more.

This is the Romper I am making out of the same fabric but making long sleeves and pants for Lilly.

This is half of one of 6 pattern sheets--crazy I know! Tracing it is a super crazy and I am sure everything I make will end up wonky cause of my poor tracing, but we will just have to see. I guess that in order to put 30-35 patterns in 6 pages, you have to have it this way!

SO>>>> this is why I am watching Survivor with a seam ripper...I attached the ribbing edging to the romper, then sewed a seam down before wrapping the edging around before sewing it down on the outside, securing on the inside at the same time. Anyways....I sewed it WAY too wide and now.....in the second picture, you can see there is not enough ribbing to go around the edge. So, Seam rip and redo....hope I can get it done and resewn during comercials!

Here is the romper for LIlly, no sleeves on it, the right leg is rolled up so I know how long to make it as I tried it on her this afternoon to figure it all out....hope it works--and SHE will wear it for sure...she has no choice! :)

Here is the raglan top for Alex, I need to finish the neckribbing and then connect the sleeves and sides, and finish the wrists. Hopefully she will like it and will be willing to wear it so I can have a picture of it! :)

Today's Tutu....

Don't have it finished yet, ran out of tulle, but have been working on a tutu for alex and if it works out well, I will make one for a bday party that we have coming up next weekend. I think I will make a tutu and a hairclip with a pretty flower on it for the little girl. I am looking forward to making matching tutus and flower clips/headbands for gifts for all the little girls we know.

Big Flower Headband for babies--I made some!!

Such a tired baby! I had to wake her up so I could try on her new daisy headband that I made. I have been wanting to try this type of accessory without spending 10-20 bucks for one, so I went to Joanne Fabrics and found some daisys and the pink ones on clearance and then some fall mums and sunflowers on sale. I bought some elastic grab bags some time back that had this wide elastic that I almost tossed....good thing I didn't do that!

I figured that he headbands would be easy to make, as long as you just tried and they were super simple. I could have figured it out on my own, but I found some tutorials online and then tried it out.

Here are my first two tries--Daisys and lace on Lillian and Pink Peonies on lace for Alexandra.

I have made a third that needs some glue gun used to adhere the flower to an aligator clip so they can be interchangeable on the headband...it is a mixture of red and yellow mums.

I can't wait to go back to Joanne's and look for more flowers. I am thinking that next I will get little flowers and make a headband with 3 smaller flowers on it. Like sweet peas. I think I saw those on clearance, but knew the rage was all about big flowers and bypassed them, now as my mind gets going I see that some smaller clusters would be adorable too....and Alex would love love love the pink as it is her favorite color.

Here are 5 of the 10 diapers I made for Isaac yesterday and today.

He will only wear "cool" print diapers or else will throw a fit...
So...rather then fight it, I got busy and made my life easier at diaper changing time!

I also made 4 diapers for Lilly and can I just say, Minky is the best best bestest PUL EVER!!!

In my last batch of DIY PUL that I sent in, I had 4 different minkys in it and this purple bubbles is the first diaper I have made from them and WOW I LOVE LOVE her cute little bottom in such a fluffy soft diaper!

my next diy will have a TON more minky in it!! LOVE IT!!!

Actually, I got two things done so far this evening and plan on getting a 3rd finished while unwinding for bed....which I should have been in 1 hr ago! :) oops!

I finished a MT or Mei Tai infant/toddler carrier.... I had this bad boy started over a year ago and never finished it....but I did tonight. Finally...which is good because Lilly now has better head support and I would love to start her in on it. I like it the best for around the house...doing chores, cleaning and running after my other 2 rugrats.

I will get a picture of us in it tomorrow as I am getting some help from my neice...a 14 almost 15yr old who is bored out of her mind right now waiting for school to start! :)

I also got a pillowcase dress type shirt finished for my little 4yr old. It is a Dora the explorer purple fabric and purple ribbon straps. I love it and hope it looks nice on her. I hope she wants to wear it. Maybe if she actually likes it I will get other fabric for her and make more things for her. Can't guarentee she will model it for me, but will try.

Now I am off to finish putting the latest photos of Lilly into scrapbook pages...not in a book, b/c I don't have an actual book for her yet, but I have many of the pages finished. Once I finish that, it will be a 3rd off my to do list.

Oh...and I think I will go straight to my jewery box right now and put my wedding rings back on...5 weeks after I have deflated from having a baby and I still keep forgetting to go put that darn thing on! :) Glad it will fit now....but I do still have a few more pounds to get off...I might start to try running/walking in the mornings before anyone wakes...but of couse I need to get my lazy bum out of bed thought!

Angie's Free Cloth Diaper Pattern Nb-Lg

These patterns are JUST patterns with no instructions, no elastic markings and only approximated the snap and hook/loop placements. I am making posts on this blog with instructions.

These patterns have two drawn lines--a trimmer line at the crotch for day diapers, a wider line for night pocket diapers or covers.

At the back of the diapers there are two lines drawn, one for a front snapping and one for a side snapping.

This is a trim, nice fitting diaper on my kids and a few testers. I did not do a very intensive testing, but would love to hear any feedback on these, especially on the newborn and small sizes. I feel those two sizes are off some, but I do love my side snap that I made as a tester on my now 4 week old. I need to get some pictures of her in it. She is abou 10lbs and fits in it in nicely.

Sewing your first cloth diaper

I have someone who I may be helping though the process of sewing her own cloth diapers and decided to start a few pointers, helpful hints on how to begin and refine the process to end up with nice diapers that look nice, work great and don't waste wonderful material that you probably spent a pretty penny on.

First....find a free pattern, sewing machine and old cotton garments/towels, elastic and thread

don't use snaps or velcro/touchtape/aplix--on the first, wait until you like it for those things. Your first diaper might be unusable for you --and if you really want--you could use it as a fitted using pins and a cover.

depending on the thickness of the fabrics, I would use only 2 thicker "body" layers and with thinner fabrics you could use 3.

Cut out several layers for the soaker layer and zig-zag the edges or serge if you have a serger.

Sew the soaker pad to the inner layer of 2 or middle layer of 3.

Place the right sides together (if using 3, make sure the hidden layer is showing on the outside) and pin together. (use more pins if using knits or stretchy fabrics)

Sew around the edges from one side of the front to the other side of the front, leaving the top of the diaper open for turning the diaper right side out.

Turn the diaper and pin the opening closed.

Two options here... some people sew all around the diaper--which is called topstitching. You can see this diaper here is like that. At the legs, it makes a "casing" around the elastic.

Some people don't like to topstitch the legs because the extra holes might encourage leaking.

Some people don't like to do the extra work.

But I *usually* do it b/c I feel the explosive or runny BMs are usually contained better this way then by not "casing" the legs.

Below if a picture of a fitted diaper where only the wings/back and the front have been topstitched and the legs have not. This was b/c I was lazy....plus my machine doesn't like to

sew through several layers of fabric and gets rather grumpy when I do.

At this point, make your decision about what you are gonna topstitch and do it!

You are done...try out the diaper on your wonderful child, who I am sure is gonna hold perfectly still for you to see how the fit is on them.

Once you have found a diaper pattern that you like, start making the diapers you want to make.

Here is something I made that I am so happy about...
A fleece top with pockets and trim from another fleece, then pants to match.

We just love Dora the explorer and she love loves these yoga pants and top. I have started to make some aqua colored pants for her and have some dora cotton fabric that I serged around dora and boots to make little "patches" for the pants and the matching top that will come ONLY when the pants are complete and the other unfinished items are CoMPLETED!

Wow...so I am finally working on my "unfinished business". I made a list of all the items that I have started and not finished...and it was LONG...

So, off I went today to

get some of the items off of my list.

So first on my pile and list was the BEAUTIFUL Mei Tai which is pictured above. I have had this MT partly started for OVER 1 year. Felt VERY good to finish this...so I am off to sell it. :) My kids are both too active to anymore to be in them....once my babe showed in the pictures could see, he wanted no part of being confined! Still doesn't want to as you can see from Mr Active!

The adorable cloth diaper he is wearing is a fitted I serged, and it is recycled from Daddy's old jean shorts that are too small. :) But I made 3 diapers from the jeans shorts but had to "stretch" the fabric and decided to use some fleece leftovers to make a cute diaper that daddy would love to see when the Colts are playing. I love the way it come out...but really, I didn't make it today, but in the last week. It is made from my own personal pattern.

The Wool longies are recycled from a sweater I found at the Salvation Army for 2-3$. I actually used a yoga pants pattern developed for my own kids based on a pattern tutorial developed by another mama. I have a post on here that has the directions on how to make your own pattern for yoga pants based on YOUR child's measurements too. LOVE how they look.

I did actually use up some old Joanne's microfleece that I have had lying around 4EVER! I made 2 pair of the yoga pants for my 2 kids out of it. BUT, we had an explosion of poo in one pair and then the other child walked through it and got some on the bottom hem of hers...so they HAD to go! :) I will wash those up tomorrow and then get them in them and take pictures of those to post. I am very happy with the results.

SO...as far as unfinished business goes...

Pretty good start if I do say so myself.... :) Now to decide on what to work on next.

I do actually have a "business" to do list too...pictures, tutorials, sewing directions, diapers to sew for testing, web design and SO many other things...

But I have decided to work with my personal pile first, then finish my business sewing pile, THEN I will actually turn in the sewing machines to be serviced and I will then HAVE to actually work on my scrapbooking that is so far behind...another HUGE started and unfinished project. OH....I wish that I could just do one thing at a time. All that unfinished business. Maybe we will win powerball lottery tonight and have 101 million and not have to worry about having the time to do all the things I want to! (don't worry, we are not big players, we only use change and only buy one ticket when it is a HUGE payout.... :)

Make your Own Longies for Fleece/wool pattern!

The Below tutorial is from Stephanie from Diaperswappers.com, but I know there are a ton of people out there would love love this and are not part of the DS family. I suggest that everyone who uses or sews cloth diapers to join DS, but if not, here is a great way to draft your own pattern for longies for your perfect fit on YOUR child. I will be trying this today! :) As soon as the DS and DD wake from their naps....and yes, I will be trying this pattern on some cheap fleece first! :)

I just made my own pair for dd by drafting my own pattern using her measurements I measured her waist, hips, rise, thigh and inseam and this is what I did:

Supplies: A very large pad/sheet of paper (or a cut open paper grocery bag, or a few sheets of paper taped together) a marker/pen or pencil, a long ruler)
and your child's measurements

1) draw a horizontal line that is half the length of the child's hip meaurement, mark the exact centre of the line with a dot

2) draw a vertical line from that dot down, this line needs to be half the length of the rise -2"

3) draw another horizontal line that measures the entire size of the child's thigh measurements + 1 1/2-2" (so the pants will fall nicely on the leg)

4)continue the vertical line down the length of the child's inseam + 1" if you want to turn the edge, if you're just going to have a raw edge (perfectly fine for fleece, or a lettuce/serged edge) you don't need to add the extra inch

5)now draw another horizontal line that is equal to the horizontal line in step 3

6)draw two more vertical lines on each end of the lines in step 3 and 5, that connect the horizonal lines

7)now, draw a slight concave curve (curve line inward) connecting horizonal line in step one to the horizonal line in step 3, do this on both ends

8) Add a quarter inch seam allowance using a dotted line all the way around the edge of the drawing

Now...you take half of the waist measurement and draw a line, then draw 2 perpendicular lines to that measuring 2.5 inches, and then another line parallel to the first (this will make the "yoga" pant waist)

Cutting the pattern out of the fabric

-pin the pattern you have just drafted to your fabric, cut 2 out of the leg pattern and 1 out of the waist pattern piece (the waist pattern piece must be cut on the fold, making sure the direction of the stretch of the fabric is correct (must be stretchiest in the direction of the length of the waist not the width (along the longest part, not the 5 inch part)

Sewing:

-fold each individual leg in half, right sides together, pin and stitch up the side using just a regular stich or a serger (stitch from the thigh to the cuff of each leg) Fold the waist band in half, right sides together so that the short ends are touching, pin and sew/serge

-turn the pant legs right side out and pin the legs together at the rise, stitch them together

-turn the pants back inside out, turn the waist band in on itself (like you would a sling) pin the waistband to the inside of the pants at the raw edges, stitch making sure that you are stretching the waist band as you got to match the edge of the waist of the pants

For fun I added a lettuce edge (to make them girlier for dd

Turn the pants right side out and try on your little one, sorry we don't have any action shots yet, dd is still napping (I put her down and then did this tutorial!)

Some tips:

If you would like the front to have a lower rise than the back of the pants, mark one edge of the rise curve approx 1 inch down with a dot, then draw a line to connect that point with the top of the "rise" line (I'll try to update with a pic asap) (basically it will look like a little angle on one side, either left of right, not both, and it doesn't matter which side you choose as long as it's just one

Practice makes perfect! Practice on some cheap fleece a couple times to perfect the fit before cutting in to that expensive interlock!

pul for the tabs or for the backs/tabs...work great and are adorable...but I do only have a boy in diapers right now...hopefully I will have a girl the next time! :) or to be sold they will go!

Here are a few small and n/b hhs pocket diapers and AI2 diapers that I would have otherwise had to use the PUL for small wetbags, so the HHS is a great alternative!

Here are two medium fitted diapers that I made from my own pattern which I call ladybug and little man--which is what I call my little models! :) Both of these are made out of recycled Tee shirts that I found were not being used by my husband or myself, or were grown out of.

Still haven't put on the snaps to finish it, but it is almost midnight and I figure that I have really gotten a great amount of "unfinished" projects completed! :)
